…well, not exactly. More like Weekend Pick.
This week we feature just the one film, but it certainly deserves some attention. Upstream Color is a gorgeous mind bending film that rarely circulates, mostly because its cover lacks a description, review, credits or anything with text for that matter. With nothing to pull us in or a third party confirming its greatness with stars or olive branches, I can understand why many of us have yet to take a chance on this film. Trust me though, there is a classic indie film concealed in the secrecy of its plastic case!
Kris is derailed from her life when she is drugged by a small-time thief. She is unknowingly drawn into the life cycle of a presence that permeates the microscopic world, moving to nematodes, plant life, livestock, and back again. Along the way, she finds another being-a familiar, who is equally consumed by the mysterious presence. The two search urgently for a place of safety within each other as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of their wrecked lives.
